Celebrate the classic holiday tradition of trains under a Christmas tree and travel across Texas by model railroad in this scratch built “O” scale model, exclusively built for the Houston Museum of Natural Science by Train Worx. About the size of a tennis court, the multiple trains crisscrossing the state visit important and unique places in the state’s geology and physiography while preserving the holiday theme with Christmas trees and cars filled with presents. Destinations include oil country salt domes, prairies and wetlands of the Texas coast and state and national monuments, such as Enchanted Rock, Pedernales Falls, The Balcones Escarpment and Big Bend. Along the routes to these geologic wonders, the trains also pass through Galveston, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio with other surprises along the route. A few behind the scene looks at the exhibit design here.
It took three 53′ trucks to transport the 1300 sq. ft. display. This exhibit is the largest indoor “O” scale model railroad in Texas. It’s been nine months in the making and pulls into HMNS for public display, November 18. Don’t miss what is sure to become a holiday tradition! Free with museum admission.
