HOUSTON, TX — This February, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is bursting with love and excitement. From naming a hissing cockroach after your ex, to dancing the night away with a new flame (or friend), to learning all about the wonders of wild weather patterns, here are our top five February happenings.

- Event: Endless Love
HMNS Hermann Park | Now through February 14
Exciting, tough, sometimes scary……. give your loved one the ultimate symbol of endless love: a hissing cockroach. Honor a loved one (or get revenge on an ex, we won’t tell) by naming a roach after them. Because nothing makes a heart beat faster than a roach.
From January 18th to Valentine’s Day on February 14th, help these roaches secure their reservations for just $10 as you give a roach a name and receive an enamel pin and certificate in return.
Your roach lives at the Heartbreak Motel located inside the Museum Store – come by and visit anytime!
- Exhibition: Wild Weather
HMNS at Sugar Land | Opens January 31
Storm Ahead! This immersive, interactive and entertaining experience allows visitors to explore severe weather’s power and unpredictability. Increase your understanding of the science behind severe weather, its connection to a changing climate, and the emerging technologies and forecasting techniques.
Explore hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms, lightning and extreme heat, as we work to improve our ability to predict and mitigate the impacts of severe weather, and prepare for future conditions as our climate changes.
Wild Weather is generously supported by the City of Sugar Land Public Works Department.

Join us for a night where chemistry sparks connections! Mingle with other singles in an electrifying atmosphere featuring interactive activities, delectable delights from our sundial food tents, themed cocktails, and dance with DJ Victor and DJ Dean. Enjoy a continuous showing of When Harry Met Sally (1989) at the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre and a night under the stars in the Burke Baker Planetarium, setting the perfect mood for magical connections—all included with your ticket.
Already in a relationship? That’s perfect, too! Bring your significant other to this romantic mixer and keep the chemistry alive!

HMNS at Sugar Land | Friday, February 14: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Explore an intimate glimpse into the concept of love in ancient Egypt this Valentine’s Day.
Inspired in part by Ancient Egyptian love poetry, this event combines an illuminating lecture by Michelle Marlar, Ph.D., Director of Egyptian Archaeological Missions, with an elegant three-course dinner and wine service. Unearth the mysteries of love in the shadow of the pyramids as you explore the captivating connections between love, myth, and relationships in ancient Egypt.
This event is for adults 21 or older.
HMNS Hermann Park | Friday, February 20, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Immerse yourself in a vibrant evening of traditions both old and new at our 2nd Annual Celebration of African American Culture! Join us for engaging booths, crafts, educational facts, and live entertainment for all ages.
The evening kicks off with a powerful rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing from Guest Artist Ka’ Vonda Woodrow followed by live music, second line Brass band and an informative fun fact series. Explore booths from community partners such as Project Row Houses, Freedman’s Town, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and much more. You do not want to miss this meaningful and momentous celebration!
